Prince Harry calls for “new laws” to protect children on social media

THE Prince Harrythe youngest son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and the late Princess Diana, the dangers children face on the internet and urges for new regulatory oversight of social networking companies.

Speaking at an online event for the UK’s 5Rights Foundation’s Online Safety Toolkit, Online Safety Toolkit, Prince Harry criticized the social media giants because treat children as “digital experiments to make money” as reported by The Guardian.

“As parents, my wife Megan and I. we are worried about the next generation who will grow up in a world in which children are treated as digital experiments to make money companies and in which things like hatred and evil seem normal in a way, “said Prince Harry, a father of two. “We want our children and all children to feel the power to speak,” he said.

“We are at a critical juncture, we are all useful in helping children thrive in the digital world,” he added. «We need new laws. We need strong leadership».

Prince Harry has voiced support for legislation in place in California, the EU and the United Kingdom that seeks to protect children online.

The Duke of Sussex also hinted at the famous Facebook informant, Francis Haugenwhich last year revealed that the social media company knew content on its platform was hurting young users – when it said it needed research to find out what information technology companies hold from the public.

According to the APE-MPE, This is not the first time Prince Harry has criticized social media companies. He said last year that “time is running out” for these companies to take substantive action on the misinformation that he believes threatens democratic governments.
