Prince Harry wants speedy prosecution of newspapers, say lawyers

Prince Harry wants London's High Court to resolve the remainder of his case against the UK's Mirror Group Newspapers as quickly as possible following its ruling in his favor late last year, his legal team said on Monday. fair (29).

In December, the High Court ruled that Harry was the victim of wiretapping and other illegal acts by journalists from the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People tabloids, with the knowledge of their respective editors.

The prince, the first member of British royalty in 130 years to give evidence in court when he appeared as a witness in June, received 140,600 pounds (equivalent to around 878,000 reais at this Monday's exchange rate) in compensation.

Judge Timothy Fancourt ruled that around half of the reports about the Duke of Sussex examined in court were the result of illegal acts. However, the trial only considered 33 of the 147 articles that Harry claims were obtained illegally.

“While the Duke is certainly prepared to seek to resolve the remainder of his case with a settlement, it is necessary to list… the trial of the remainder of his complaint as quickly as possible,” his legal team said in a written statement.

Harry's lawyer, David Sherborne, said trial instructions should take place as quickly as possible. Lawyers for Mirror Group said in their written statements that proposals, the value of which was not disclosed, were made to the prince seeking a settlement.
