Prince Harry’s 40th Birthday: Charity, New Friends and a Phone Call from King Charles

Not just celebrations: on the eve of his fortieth birthday the Prince Harry He spent it at the Los Angeles Tennis Club, where a charity tournament was held dedicated to George Zajfen, a child who died prematurely.

Some photos of the day, taken by Vanessa Preziose, were shared by George’s mother, Kelly McKee Zajfen, founder of the non-profit Alliance for Children’s Rights and a great friend of Meghan (the Sussexes spend a lot of time with her and her family, such as the last Christmas holidays, ed.). “An incredible day,” she called it on Instagram, thanking the tournament’s sponsor, Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation. “You have been a guiding light for our family, not just in your friendship, but in the incredible work that The Archewell Foundation does every day,” Zajfen wrote, also signing the post on behalf of her husband Julian, daughter Lily, and George. She then added an extra message for Harry: “May this trip around the sun be the best one ever.”

The rest of the weekend, however, was dedicated to family. Harry celebrated his birthday at his home in Montecito with his wife and children, Archie and Lilibet, but the closeness of the royal family was not lacking. He made a video call with his father, Charles III, but the real news was the public greetings arrived via social media from Buckingham Palace.

It was since Megxit that the official pages of the Palace had not published a message for Harry, a sign that -perhaps- a rapprochement is underway. The reason is not only in the wish, but above all in the fact that Official greetings are reserved only for senior royals, and Harry is no longer one. It must also be said, however, that round years always represent important milestones, and perhaps an exception was made.

The same post was also shared by the social pages of the Princes of Wales: a choice which, unlike that of Charles III, underlines the still significant distance between Harry and Williambecause that post, among the Instagram Stories, seemed more like a duty than an authentic message. Reading between the lines is a must, when talking about complex balances like those of the Court, but perhaps something is really moving. Something could be unlocked in the coming months. Harry and his family were invited to Althorp for Christmas by Charles Spencer, Lady Diana’s brother. If the Sussexes accepted, they would not have many excuses for staying away from Sandringham, where the king spends his holidays, about 140 kilometers away. Has the time come to bury the hatchet?
