Prince William has become very rich: here’s why

Do the accounts in your pocket ai royal it is never easy, but often it is they who meet the curiosities of “common mortals”. This is the case of the members of the House of Windsor, who with the Sovereign Grant Report every year they make public (among many things) the expenses incurred for the maintenance of the monarchy and the income. Thus, it turns out that Prince William has become very rich since he is prince of wales and that this year he had an extra of six million pounds. Merit of revenue related to Duchy of Cornwallhis new source of income.

Indeed, after the death of Elizabeth II and the accession to the throne of his father, William became the 25th Duke of Cornwall and, together with the title, he also began to receive the proceeds deriving from the profits of the duchy itself. According to the report released by Buckingham Palace, for the financial year 2022-2023 the duchy recorded net profits of 24 million pounds, which in the last year were divided between the prince and his father, by virtue of the turnover: to Carlo just over 14 million, to William 16 million. Both, however, pocketed less, because the duchy requested and obtained greater liquidity in circulation; hence, the prince’s extra 6 million.

Next year, however, William will have the whole amount for himself. “My father left an indelible mark on the dukedom”William said in a note accompanying the annual report, “I look forward to continuing his work, as well as exploring new opportunities to make a difference.” The duchy is very vast; comprises 23 regions, with an estimated value of £1 trillion. It was created in 1337 by Edward III, to support his son Edward Woodstock, known as the Black Prince, and his heirs. The income from the dukedom alone today covers the costs of William’s public and private life, but he does not have direct access to capital; the prince, like everyone else, pays tax on the income and surpluses he receives. In short, not everything is as it seems. Not even when you’re a future king.
