Prince William: Queen Elizabeth’s funeral brought back memories of Diana’s funeral

The images from her funeral procession Queen Elizabeth they went around the world and if something stood out it was the way they walked prince william and Harry, as they reminded him the way they stood at their mother’s funeral Princess Diana.

The new heir to the British throne said that his grandmother’s coffin “awakened him memories”, 25 years after his mother’s death. “Yesterday’s procession was a test. Memories awoke“, he said, after he went with his wife Kate to see the flowers left for Queen Elizabeth by citizens in Sandringham, in the east of England. “It’s those kind of moments where you think, OK, I’m prepared for this. But he was not so prepared. It was very strange,” he explained to the British who went to greet him.

He told us his mother would be proud of him and said yesterday was a difficult day because it brought back memories of his mother’s funeral,” said 54-year-old Jane Wells, who was among the citizens William spoke to in Sandringham.

25 years ago, the then 15-year-old prince along with his brother Harry, 12, followed on foot the coffin of their mother who was killed in a car crash in Paris in August 1997. In 2017 he told a documentary shown by the BBC that his participation in that procession “was one of the hardest things” he had ever done in his life.
