Princess Anne, sister of King Charles III, returned to her home in Gatcombe Park on Friday morning after a short stay in hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and a concussion, according to a royal source.
The 73-year-old Princess Royal was injured while walking near horses on the royal estate in Gloucestershire, western England, on Sunday night (23).
Anne will continue to rest and recover at home, returning to public engagements when her medical team recommends it is safe and comfortable to do so, the source told CNN .
Her husband, Vice Admiral Tim Laurence, expressed his gratitude to the medical team for their care.
He said in a statement: “I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the staff at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay.”
The exact circumstances leading to the Princess Royal’s injuries were unclear, but there were horses nearby and her medical team previously said the head injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.
Emergency services were sent to the property and following medical attention at the scene, she was transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further examination, treatment and observation.
A CNN understands that the princess was unable to remember the details of what happened on Sunday night due to the concussion.
While it is unknown for how long, she will receive rehabilitation support at home while following standard concussion protocols.
Anne is widely considered one of the hardest-working royals, dutifully undertaking hundreds of engagements every year. She is one of several royals who went the extra mile to support the king when he briefly stepped back from public duties following his cancer diagnosis.
The five-day hospital stay caused the princess to miss several engagements this week, including a state banquet at Buckingham Palace held for the emperor and empress of Japan on the first day of their state visit to the United Kingdom. She was also due to travel to Canada for a royal visit this weekend.
His accident is the latest in a series of health problems the family has faced since the New Year, with his brother Charles and the Princess of Wales continuing their cancer treatments. Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, was also diagnosed with malignant melanoma in January.
