At Christmas it emerged that Charles had given the item to several family members, including Princess Anne, Lady Louise Windsor and Sir Timothy Laurence. We saw them wearing the garment as they walked side by side towards Sandringham Church on Christmas morning, alongside Samuel Chatto, Lady Sarah Chatto and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, also wearing that same distinctive scarf.

Known as Highgrove Heritage Scarfthe soft accessory presents the Prince of Wales patternwith enlarged paintings on Shepherd fabric. It’s touching that Anna chose to wear the scarf in the heat nuance of beige and grey, the color of which is thought to have been inspired by the Highgrove stone, while the brother is engaged in a monumental tour abroad: a way to underline the importance of the journey, even for the royals remaining at home, as this is the King and Queen’s first tour of a Commonwealth country since the monarch’s coronation.

Anna’s choice to wear the scarf in this public context highlights hers once again close bond with his brother. In September 2022, a few weeks after the death of former monarch Elizabeth II, some insiders told MailOnline that Charles saw the princess as “a pillar of his life”; and it is likely that this bond was further strengthened with Anne’s stoic response to the King and Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis.

The role of the princess at her brother’s coronation, which she attended as Gold Stick in Waitingfurther highlighted their close bond. At the time of the coronation, Kerr declared a Tatler: «She is the person the King has known the longest… Anna is wise, intelligent and incredibly in tune with modern Britain. She fully understands who and what shaped him and is keen for him to succeed: for the sake of their beloved mum and dad and for the country and the Commonwealth.”
