British Princess Kate Middleton attended Remembrance Day this Sunday (10) in London, her second appearance in two days, as she gradually resumes public duties following cancer treatment.
From the balcony of a government building she watched members of the royal family, including King Charles, and politicians lay wreaths at the Cenotaph war memorial in central London.
The Princess of Wales wore a black hat and a jacket adorned with red poppies, used by the British as a symbol of respect for those who lost their lives in conflict.
A day earlier, on Saturday (9), she had appeared at the Remembrance Day Festival at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
In September, Kate said she had finished chemotherapy but that her road to full recovery would be long. At the time, at 42 years old, Kate said that she would carry out several public commitments at the end of the year.
Before this weekend’s appearances, the last time she was seen in public was in October, when she met the grieving families of three young women who were murdered at a dance class in northwest England.
The ceremony at the Cenotaph war memorial is held on the Sunday closest to 11 November to mark the end of the First World War and pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the conflict.
Kate’s husband William, heir to the throne, said during a visit to South Africa last week that the last year had probably been the “most difficult” of his life after Kate and her father Charles were diagnosed with cancer.
