Princess Mako moved to New York with her husband and this is her new life without a royal title

Late last month, Princess Mako of Akishino, now Mako Komuro, married aspiring lawyer Kei Komuro. After getting married, and once Mako formally renounced all his royal titles, they announced their plans to move to New York, since Kei works in a law firm in that city.

Mako and Kei’s love story has been widely followed by the media, as a princess falling in love with a commoner to the point of giving up all the life she already knows is not something you see every day. A few days ago, Mako was caught shopping in the Big Apple for the first time since she moved in with Kei about a week ago.

You no longer have a security escort

Mako was seen shopping for household necessities, towels, clothespins, organizers, etc., at the popular Bath & Body Works store. During the hour and a half that she spent in the store, she was seen alone, without the security escort she always had in Japan.

The eldest daughter of Prince Fumihito and niece of the current Emperor of Japan has lived in the United States for a couple of weeks and is learning about the daily routine of a commoner.

You can dress casually

Mako was dressed very casually, with jeans, boots and a green coat, a outfit very different from the ones she wore in her princess days.

She seems to be adjusting well to a life very different from the one she always led in a new, somewhat unfamiliar place to her.

She was photographed with her husband

Later that day, after shopping, she was seen walking through New York with her husband.

The couple live in a one-bedroom apartment in an upscale residential tower in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, near Central Park.

The couple met more than 10 years ago in college and planned to get married for a long time. Fortunately, they managed to do it, amid a lot of controversy, and now Mako can make her own decisions and decide how she wants to live her life.
