“Priscilla”, “Ferrari” and “Saltburn” are left out of the Oscar; see the snubs

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this Tuesday (23) the nominees for the Oscars 2024 – see the complete list – and surprised by leaving some titles and names out of contention.

The nominations can often be predicted, based on the season's other awards or how it was received by critics, but not all expected productions are always successful.

It is the case that “Priscilla” , “Ferrari” , “Saltburn” and more, who competed in other awards, such as the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards, but failed to reach the main awards in the film industry.

To remember the “forgotten” at this year’s Oscars, the CNN one listed some features that went unnoticed by the Academy.

Oscar 2024 snubs

  • Priscilla

The newest feature by Oscar winner Sofia Coppola (“Encontros e Desencontros”) did not catch the attention of the Academy, receiving 0 nominations for the 2024 Oscars.

The production was shown for the first time at the Venice Festival, competing for the Golden Lion and consecrating Cailee Spaeny as Best Actress. In the other awards of the season, the film ended up receiving one or two nominations.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the main film review aggregator, the title received an approval rating of 84% from specialized critics.

The film shows the first meeting between the young Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) and Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party. He, who was already a rock star, becomes someone completely unexpected in moments of privacy for her: a lover, an ally in solitude, a vulnerable best friend.

Through the eyes of PriscillaCoppola tells the hidden side of a great American myth during their long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German military base to their dream estate at Graceland.

  • Saltburn

Fever on social media, the long Emerald Fennell who won his first Oscar in 2021 for “Beautiful Revenge” was snubbed by the Academy.

The film was nominated for several categories at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Bafta, in addition to receiving 71% approval from specialized critics.

The psychological thriller accompanies student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan ) who struggles to find his place at Oxford College and finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi ) who invites him to spend a summer at Saltburn, his eccentric family's sprawling estate.

Oliver, a perceptive reader of insecurities, approaches the traditional British family and walks the corridors of the country house in a way that makes it unclear whether he intends to one day own it or make everything fall apart.

  • Ferrari

Despite having gone unnoticed at the awards, it is worth betting on Penélope Cruz being nominated for Best Supporting Actress or Best Sound, as in Bafia.

The filmmaker's production Michael Mann which was nominated for an Oscar for “The Informant” received a 72% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Set in 1957, in Modena, Italy, the plot takes place in a key period in the life of former racing driver, Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver), as he tries to overcome the death of his son, struggles to maintain his company and seeks to dominate the tracks.

To try and save his business, he decides to take part in the Mille Miglia, a grueling 1,000-mile race across Italy. And, while he worries about his career, Enzo still has to deal with a marriage in crisis.

  • All of Us Strangers

The gay romance of Andrew Haigh went unnoticed by the Academy. Despite having received several Bafta nominations, a Critics Choice nomination for Screenplay and an acting nomination at the Golden Globes, the title is not competing for an Oscar in any category.

The plot follows Adam (Andrew Scott), a lonely 40-year-old author, who falls in love with his neighbor Harry (Paul Mescal). As their relationship develops, he is mysteriously drawn back to the house where he grew up, abandoned by his family long ago.

  • Air: The Story Behind the Logo

Present at the other awards, the film that reunited longtime friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon was left out of the Oscar race. The production had the highest approval rating on this list on Rotten Tomatoes, with 93%.

The title tells the story of the creation of one of the biggest successes in Nike's history: the Jordan sneaker.

The plot, based on a true story, follows the search of a company employee for basketball newcomer Michael Jordan, with the aim of establishing a partnership that would revolutionize the world of sports and contemporary culture.

  • Strange way of life

The short film by the award-winning Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, was not considered for the award.

The story follows Silva (Pascal), who crosses the desert on horseback to visit his friend, Sheriff Jake (Hawke), after 25 years. They celebrate meeting, but the next morning Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to remember their friendship.

  • Super Mario Bros. – The film

The second highest grossing film of 2023 was left out of the Oscar race.

The film is based on the video game series of the same name. In the plot, Mario and Luigi end up in the famous mushroom world, ruled by Princess Peach, needing to defend it from the threats of the iconic Bowser, who does everything he can to reign everywhere.

  • Wish: The Power of Wishes

Disney failed to score “Wish: The Power of Desires” at Oscar 2024. The animation is from the same creators of one of the studio's biggest hits: “Frozen” .

In the magical world of Rosas, Asha makes a powerful wish that is granted by a cosmic force: a small sphere of limitless energy called the Star. Together, they will do anything to save the community from the ruling Magnificent King and prove that when a brave human being unites with the energy of the stars, wonderful things can happen.
