Starting this week, private clinics in capitals across the country will be able to apply the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19.
The manufacturer imported two million doses from the United States to Brazil, one of the requirements for sale in the private market, opened after the end of the state of emergency in public health, defined by the Ministry of Health on May 22.
According to the president of the Brazilian Association of Vaccine Clinics (ABCVAC), Geraldo Barbosa, the packaging of the immunizer will be different from what Brazilians are used to seeing, in the distribution of Fiocruz to immunization posts throughout the country.
“It is a specific package for sale. We managed to make Brazil the first in the private market in the world. A benefit for the whole society that needs to complete the vaccination schedule”, says Barbosa.
Over time, immunization in private clinics will advance to other municipalities, but the schedule is not yet defined.
The doses arrived in Brazil at the end of April. The selling price of the immunizer at the factory reaches R$ 151 reais, a value defined by the Chamber of Regulation of the Medicines Market (CMED), an interministerial instance that deals with the prices practiced in the sector.
For the final consumer, however, the cost should vary between R$300 and R$350. The application will obey the same criteria adopted in the public network.
Vaccinations will only be offered to people over 18 years of age, who need to complete the vaccination schedule or who are getting vaccinated for the first time.
“All cases will be registered in the Federal Government’s information program, ConectSUS. Clinics should also check if the patient has already undergone all doses, to avoid excesses”, concludes the association’s president.
