Private hospitals in the city of SP record an increase in Covid cases in children

Private hospitals in the city of São Paulo have registered a significant increase in children with Covid-19 and flu-like illness since the beginning of December, according to a survey by CNN Agency.

At Hospital Sírio Libanês, the positive rate of tests collected in children for Covid-19 increased approximately three times in the first four days of January, compared to the entire month of December.

During the last month of last year, 1,317 tests were performed at the hospital, with 93 positive – a 7% confirmation rate – and one hospital stay. Between January 1 and 4, 210 tests were collected, with 45 positive – a 21.4% confirmation rate – and two children hospitalized with Covid-19.

At the Hospital Infantil Sabará, between November 28 and December 4, five children with Covid were urgently treated at the unit, and 331 with the flu-like illness. These numbers reached 44 and 644, respectively, in the last week of 2021, between 26 and 31 December.

It is noteworthy that, during Christmas week, 810 children went through the emergency room at Hospital Sabará with flu-like illness.

The Hospital Santa Catarina, located in the central region of the city, reported this Friday (7) that there are two pediatric patients hospitalized with Covid-19 in the unit.

According to a statement from the medical center, in the last 15 days there was a 40% increase in this rate, in addition to a 23% positivity in tests for the disease at the Children’s Emergency Room. In the previous period, the positivity of the collected exams was 2%.

In the Albert Einstein Hospital, in the week of December 19th to 25th, 98 cases of Covid-19 were registered in people under 18 years of age. 1,156 tests were performed in this group in the period.

Between January 2 and 5, 172 cases were registered in 596 tests in children under 18 years of age. The confirmation rate jumped from 8.47% to 28.85%.

The hospital also reported that on January 5th there was a person under the age of 18 admitted to the unit with Covid.

Finally, the city government said that in the Children’s Municipal Hospital Menino Jesus, a public reference in child care, in the months of October, November and December, 8,410 people with respiratory symptoms were assisted.

There were 2,380 in October, 2,471 in November and 3,559 in December. In January 2022, still according to the municipal management, so far, 326 cases of respiratory conditions were registered.

According to data from the Covid-19 Panel of the city of São Paulo, since the beginning of the pandemic, 41 children between 0 and 9 years old have died in the city with the disease.
