The proposal to privatize the Post Office should be one of the first to be reversed right at the beginning of the new government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
This will be the recommendation of the Communications technical group of the transition cabinet, according to the team’s coordinator and former minister of the portfolio, Paulo Bernardo. For him, interrupting the privatization process of the Post Office is a priority and has to be done “right after leaving”, at the beginning of Lula’s term.
“We are going to do a survey and recommend. Our idea is to recommend putting an end to this idea of privatizing the Post Office”, said Bernardo to journalists this Friday (18), at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) – the headquarters of the transitional office, in Brasília.
The proposal is already under internal discussion in the transition technical group, which has a meeting scheduled for next Tuesday (22) with a team from the Post Office.
So far, meetings have already been held with the executive secretary and with the Telecommunications secretary of the Ministry of Communications, in addition to Anatel. “You have to make an assessment of everything that is being done”, said the former minister.
Paulo Bernardo headed the Communications portfolio during Dilma Rousseff’s first term. However, he said this Friday (18) that he will not return to the post from January 1. Bernardo was also Minister of Planning, Budget and Management under Lula.
Unification of the EBC must be revoked
Another proposal that is under advanced discussion in the Transition Communications group is the revocation of a decree that unified Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), in order to divide again the part of state communication and public communication – as it was in the administration PT, when the company was created.
“The EBC had a branch that is public TV (TV Brasil), and it had a branch that was government communication, the so-called NBR. And it all came together”, recalled Paulo Bernardo. “It’s a single company, and we think it has to separate. Just revoke it, because it was done by decree.”
