A mega-operation by Procon-RJ identified 11 gas stations with irregularities in Rio de Janeiro, this Thursday (16).
The municipality has inspected several gas stations and convenience stores since Wednesday (15). Agents found infractions such as faulty fuel pumps, which supplied up to 1.5 liters less than what consumers paid for.
Procon found a lack of volume meters and prices on displayed products such as lubricants and poorly stored food, many of which were expired or lacked information on handling and expiration dates.
Serious problems were also found, such as the presence of rodent feces in convenience store kitchens.
Some establishments were fined for oil spills on the ground, irregular collection of water resources and a suspected gas leak.
The charged gas stations and conveniences are located in several neighborhoods in Rio, such as Inhaúma, Barra da Tijuca, Jardim Gramacho, Andaraí, Engenho da Rainha, Bento Ribeiro and Sulacap.
According to the Secretary of State for Consumer Protection, Gutemberg Fonseca, the operation was extremely important to guarantee the quality of services provided to consumers. “We will not tolerate disrespect towards citizens and we will remain firm, working in an integrated manner with other bodies to ensure that consumers are not harmed.”
The President of Procon-RJ, Marcelo Barboza, highlights that the municipality acts rigorously to curb abuses. “The fines made during the operation reinforce the importance of regular inspection practices and show that there is no room for negligence”, he states.
Procon’s action included the participation of several entities: including the State Secretariat for Consumer Protection (SEDCON), the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the Civil and Military police, the State Environmental Institute (INEA), in addition to representatives of Águas do Rio and Light.
