Procon notifies airlines for overbooking at Recife airport

After a series of complaints from passengers, Procon Pernambuco notified the airlines Gol, Latam and Azul for the recurring practice of overbooking at Recife International Airport.

The document requires companies to present, by the 18th, a detailed report on cases of overbooking that occurred in the last six months.

Procon requested information such as the number of incidents, the total number of passengers affected and the measures adopted to resolve the situations.

The practice, also called “denied boarding”, occurs when companies sell more tickets than the number of seats available, causing inconvenience for passengers.

According to Procon-PE, after analyzing the documents, the agency may apply sanctions to companies based on the Consumer Protection Code, if failures are identified in the conduct of boarding processes.

The notifications were motivated by complaints from passengers who sought assistance directly at the Procon-PE station at the airport, a support point for affected consumers.

In addition to this post, Procon Pernambuco advises passengers to register their complaints at the agency’s headquarters, located on Rua Floriano Peixoto, in the Santo Antônio neighborhood, or at any affiliated unit in the state. Complaints can also be made by calling 0800 282 1512 or emailing [email protected].

Searched for by CNN the airlines Gol and Azul have not yet taken a position on the matter. Latam informed that it will only respond to the agency.
