Procon-RJ seized around half a ton of counterfeit products during a mega-operation in downtown Rio de Janeiro, this Wednesday (25).
Inspectors also seized more than five thousand fake seals from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).
Among the products are headphones, chargers, console controls and speakers from famous brands in the electronics market.
The inspected establishment was closed by agents, due to the large quantity of devices seized with signs of counterfeiting. See the video of the operation below.
The person responsible for the store was taken to the police station to provide clarification on the sale and origin of the products, which has not yet been defined.
The president of Procon-RJ, Cássio Coelho, states that counterfeit devices can pose risks to consumer safety and health.
“There is a potential harm to the consumer, who is often unaware of the fake origin of the product, being attracted by the cheaper prices or the similar appearance to the original. They also lose money, as this product does not have the same quality and durability as the original,” he said.
The seizure was the result of a joint action between the Consumer Protection Department (Decon-RJ), the State Secretariat for Consumer Protection (SEDCON), the Department for Crimes Against Intellectual Property (DRCPIM) and Procon.
