Production of Volkswagen and Skoda cars in Russia will resume no earlier than summer

As Kommersant writes with reference to Vedomosti, Volkswagen Group Rus plants located in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod can resume car production in June-July. Recall that the enterprises have not been working for exactly a month – they were suspended on March 3 due to problems with the supply of components against the backdrop of sanctions.

A Volkswagen spokesman did not comment on the new details, but the publication refers to two sources familiar with the situation. One said that the employees of the enterprise were told about a downtime until May 12, but it is predicted to be extended until July inclusive. The reason is in the spare parts that “hung on the border with Poland.” Now the company is considering a new way to deliver components to Russia – through Istanbul and Georgia.

Another source says that the restart of conveyors at both Volkswagen Group Rus plants is being discussed in June. Interestingly, according to him, the company has not yet cut its production plan for the current year. Another source said that the production of Skoda Kodiaq is planned to be moved from Nizhny Novgorod to Kaluga.
