Dance is one of the oldest artistic expressions in the world. Since man has existed, he has interacted, communicated, had fun, participated in sacred rituals and paid homage in a bodily manner. In this Sunday’s episode (14) of CNN Entre Mundos, Pedro Andrade unravels the mysteries behind the art of movement.
“It’s basically therapy. It’s really crazy. And I think art is an escape”, says one of the professionals interviewed by the program.
Dancing crosses different peoples, cultures, styles and contexts: from musical theater, which emerged in Greece in 500 BC, to classical ballet, whose origin is in 15th century Italy, or salsa, which was born in Cuba in the 19th century.
In the case of professional dancers, in addition to the love for the art, there is technique and life choices involved. “I had to make a decision whether I was better off becoming a football player or a ballet dancer. And it was the ballet”, says one of the artists in New York.
O Between worlds airs every Sunday at 9pm on CNN and on digital platforms.
