The incidents broke out among members of class enforcement forces and citizens demonstrating against the US president’s policy on immigration. “I declared an emergency local situation and imposed a ban on nightlife in downtown Los Angeles to end vandalism and looting,” Mayor Karen Bas said, addressing journalists. The area is about a square mile in size, the mayor said. A police source knowing the situation told CNN that fewer than 100,000 of the 4 million Los Angeles residents were affected.
