Karen Bas said the restrictions would apply to the city’s central areas from 8pm to 6am (local time) – that is, from 4am. by 2 pm Greek time – and will probably be extended in the coming days. He also confirmed that a local emergency situation has been declared, with 23 companies looted Monday night. Bass said that “graffiti are everywhere”, with “significant damage” to real estate as a result of demonstrations. Jim McDonell, head of the Los Angeles Police Department, described the ban on traffic as a “necessary measure to protect lives”. Only on Tuesday, 197 arrests were made by the police forces, and warned that anyone who violates the ban without a reasonable reason would be arrested.
