Prohibition of traffic in Los Angeles after riots and damage

The mayor of Los Angeles has announced that a ban on traffic will be imposed at night, as authorities are trying to “stop vandalism and stop looting”. Karen Bas said the restrictions would apply to the city’s central areas from 8pm to 6am (local time) – that is, from 4am. by 2 pm Greek time – and will probably be extended in the coming days. He also confirmed that a local emergency situation has been declared, with 23 companies looted Monday night. Bass said that “graffiti are everywhere”, with “significant damage” to real estate as a result of demonstrations. Jim McDonell, head of the Los Angeles Police Department, described the ban on traffic as a “necessary measure to protect lives”. Only on Tuesday, 197 arrests were made by the police forces, and warned that anyone who violates the ban without a reasonable reason would be arrested.
