The Senate begins to discuss this week the bill that authorizes and regulates the practice of home education in Brazil, known as homeschooling. The text was approved by the Chamber of Deputies last Wednesday (18) and is among the priorities presented by the government of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to Congress.
Supporters of the proposal say that home education guarantees the autonomy of the family in defining the directions for the education of children and adolescents. Critics fear the initiative will increase the risk of learning and sociability deficiencies and make it difficult to monitor domestic violence cases.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Evandro Cini presents an assessment of the reactions to the project approved by the Chamber. To describe the arguments that appear in the debate on homeschooling, the editor-in-chief of CNN Education, Rodrigo Maia, and the specialist CNN Claudia Costin, director of the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Educational Policies (Ceipe) at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
