According to a USP survey carried out in 2021, 97% of public school teachers believe that the ideal school would be different from the current one. Among the necessary changes, educators include more active methodologies and school curricula that are more connected with citizen education. But what does this new educational model look like? And who will be at the forefront of these important changes?
In the second episode of the new season of Projeto Upload, presenter Stéphanie Fleury talks with the main agents of the reinvention of Education.
Russell Cailey is Director and founder of THINK Learning Studio, an initiative by Think Global School, a traveling school that offers a disruptive and experience-based type of education.
According to the British, educational models that still rely on periodic assessments and that do not exploit the creative potential of their students are doomed to failure: “Where in the world do we use grades like A and B to assess our performance in the workplace? ? We don’t do that”.
The vision of such a revolutionary education may seem distant when we stop to assess the Brazilian scenario, but, according to Lucas Rocha, Project Director at the Lemann Foundation, Brazil does have reasons to celebrate.

Although we still have a long way to go in public education, the direction seems to have been found: “Brazil has moved, with the new high school, towards a model a little more similar to the European model, in which the student has trails and can experience these trails earlier in your journey.” According to Lucas, with this new model, the student has the possibility of accessing the job market through vocational education and not just through college.
Other initiatives have stood out in public education, such as the Inspiring Women, an award-winning pedagogical project in the Federal District, conceived by Gina Vieira Ponte, a recently retired elementary school teacher. The project became a landmark in education in Brazil and crossed the Atlantic with the objective of “provoking girls to envision, for themselves, other identity possibilities and reflect on other potentials they have”.
Critical of movements such as Escola Sem Partido and initiatives such as Homeschooling, Gina believes that the School has the role of teaching and also of educating the citizens of the future.
While public education faces setbacks, private education has made significant progress in recent years and that is what Thamila Zaher, Shareholder and Executive Director of Grupo SEB, one of the most recognized education organizations in the country, is about. For her, one of the most important changes in educational paradigms is that now students leave fixed and pre-established answers, starting with their own reflections and questions: “The world is variable, there are many things that change all the time. The answers will happen, but it is important that the student is able to reflect on them”.

Education is the founding foundation of our entire society. To improve the world we live in, and leave a legacy for future generations, it is essential to plan and invest in the education of these citizens. And as the world changes, teaching must follow its movements and trends.
The second episode of Projeto Upload with Stéphanie Fleury will air on Sunday, October 23, at 9 pm, on CNN Brazil.
