In an interview with CNN, the president of the Brazilian Society of Immunizations (SBIm), Juarez Cunha, stated that the protection of vaccines against Covid-19 decreases over time, regardless of the platform.
The expert also said that the vaccination strategy could be different from that announced by the Ministry of Health on Thursday (16).
The folder reduced the interval for the booster dose and expanded the age range of those who should receive the third dose of the immunizing agent against the disease for everyone over 18 years old. “We could progress more slowly,” said Cunha.
“Maybe it would be more interesting to progress by age group, for example.”
With the decision of Health, the interval for those who completed the two doses and need to be vaccinated with the booster dose is now five months. In addition, the new guidance is that all people over the age of 18, regardless of which vaccine they have taken before, will need to take a third booster dose of the Covid-19 immunizer.
“We have other priorities”, said Cunha about the ad, although he does not consider it “bad”. Some of them, for the president of SBIm, are to vaccinate a greater percentage of the population that has not yet been vaccinated and the application of the second dose.
