In progress since February 24, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia completes a week this Thursday (3). During this period, several images of destruction were released, and shocked people from different parts of the world.
Protests calling for an end to the war took place in cities across Europe, Asia and the Americas, generally supporting Ukraine and criticizing figures such as Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, and Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister.
Some protesters, in smaller numbers, also carried placards criticizing Western leaders such as US President Joe Biden, the European Union and the United Nations, highlighting what they saw as an initial inefficiency in the reaction to the attack on Ukrainian territory.
Most protests, however, call for an end to the war and send messages of support to Ukrainian civilians. There are protesters who have called for equal treatment of those who wish to leave Ukraine, after complaints of racism at the borders.
Negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian envoys on the conflict took place on Thursday, which showed progress on the issue of enabling humanitarian corridors, but did not bring the “results that Ukraine needs”, according to Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak.
