Protesters were arrested at more than 20 universities in 16 states in the US

Hundreds of people have been arrested at US colleges and universities during pro-Palestine protests. Protesters, including students and teachers, have been arrested on more than 20 campuses in at least 16 states. Many other institutions record protests without arrests.

This time of year, universities prepare for spring graduation ceremonies.

The University of Southern California, where nearly 100 protesters were arrested on April 24, canceled its main commencement event.

Protests grew after an encampment on the Columbia University campus in New York City saw the arrest of more than 100 protesters on April 18.

The protesters' demands vary from campus to campus, but the main focus is that universities divest from companies with financial ties to Israel, which is at war with Hamas.

There were also counter-protests, resulting in clashes at the University of California in Los Angeles on Sunday (28).
