A member of the “PSDB of the Constituent Assembly” and affiliated to the party for more than 20 years, former senator Aloysio Nunes said in an interview with CNN this Monday (11) that “the PSDB may be in a terminal phase”. According to the politician, there is a lack of coherence and internal unity in the legend.
“It is a disaster that has been prepared over the last few years when the PSDB no longer has a minimally shared political line between its members and that was focused on major national issues,” said Nunes.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Michel Temer also assessed that the acronym “was inert in the face of very serious facts that occurred in Brazilian politics and in the administration of the Bolsonaro government”. “For a long time, since the beginning of the current government, the PSDB has been adrift,” he said.
Nunes considered it very difficult for the acronym to be able to elect a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, since “attention and preferences are clearly focused on Lula and Bolsonaro”.
However, the politician considered that a possible victory of the party in the elections to the government of São Paulo is a “very important element for the permanence of the PSDB as a relevant political force”.
When asked about the cure for this “terminal phase” of the party, Nunes pointed out that after the elections, the toucans should take a “walk to the desert” to define a proposal capable of unifying the party, even if it means having a smaller number of members. elected parliamentarians.
third way
According to the former minister, the third way is largely a “media creation”. Nunes called it an “illusion” to believe that one of the candidates for the Planalto Palace as an alternative to former President Lula (PT) and President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) would withdraw his name from the dispute to support another candidate.
“They have been reaffirming with great emphasis that they are there for real and will go all the way. I find it very difficult to have a movement to withdraw support and benefit from another candidate”, she evaluated.
In the former senator’s opinion, the third way was not able to build a clear government proposal for Brazil. “It focuses on small political intrigues, but fails to establish an agenda in relation to important issues such as employment and health.”
Nunes said that João Doria (PSDB) is seen as “a person who is no longer able to be a candidate”, but that Eduardo Leite (PSDB) and Simone Tebet (MDB) “in terms of research are as indigent as Doria”.
“The third way, to have substance, needs to have a positive message for Brazil, this would be fundamental for the relations between the parties to be guided by big politics and not small intrigues”, he said.
Chapa between Lula and Alckmin
In Nunes’s view, the alliance between Lula and Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) happens precisely because of their differences, since “nobody is in alliance with himself”.
The former senator stated that Alckmin never walked away from democracy, and considered that the PT “has a testimony of commitment to democracy”.
“If Lula had wanted to, with his popularity, he could have run for a third term. He never threatened to shut down Congress, he never threatened to be against the election result,” she said.
“That’s why the combination of the two is an important junction for Brazilian politics, as it gives the idea of the strength, the breadth of this coalition”, reinforced Nunes.
Regarding the Bolsonaro government, the former minister pointed out that democracy is going through “bad times” with the current president, and that a possible re-election is “a real threat to democracy”.
