A city administration building and a university in Mariupol, in southern Ukraine, may have been targets of the same Russian bombing that Ukrainian authorities said on Wednesday had hit a maternity and children’s hospital. The structures are less than 1 km from the affected health units.
THE CNN managed to identify the Pryazov State Technical University and the Mariupol City Council Administration building as the second location of the alleged military attack in Mariupol. Videos posted on social media have been geolocated and verified as authentic by CNN. Videos show significant destruction to the university and city council building.
In one of the image and sound sequences, an alarm is heard echoing when the remains of a minivan are seen. The video shows the destroyed buildings and the street covered in debris. Explosions are heard in the video, but it is unclear what caused the destruction.
“This is [PSTU],” says a man in the video, referring to the university’s acronym. Another video shows the remains of a restaurant on the ground floor of one of the bombed buildings.
“Behind the fight, as you can hear,” said the man. A third video shows that a part of a building has collapsed.
The explosion in the buildings designated as the university and city hall occurred at the same time as the explosion in the children’s hospital and maternity ward.
Ukrainian version
Images released on the official Twitter profile of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine show the facade of a building with explosion marks. “Today, Russia bombed a children’s hospital and a maternity hospital in Mariupol,” the ministry accuses.

THE CNN was unable to independently verify that the hospital was in operation and that people were there.
Russia has yet to comment on the Ukrainian allegations.
