Public Prosecutor launches investigation to investigate collapse in subway work

The Public Prosecutor’s Office for Housing in the Capital of the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MP-SP) launched, this Tuesday (1st), an investigation to investigate the causes of the accident at a work on Line 6 – Orange of the subway, on Marginal Tietê. .

Part of the track towards the Ayrton Senna highway collapsed. There were no casualties. All employees managed to leave the site. Four people who had contact with contaminated river water underwent medical care.

The extent of urban and environmental damage at the construction site and on the road will be analyzed, which according to the MP-SP, harmed the urban mobility of the municipality.

Information has already been requested from Acciona, responsible for the construction of the line, contracted by the state government. According to the concessionaire, the accident occurred due to a “breakage of a sewage collector near the VSE Aquinos (Ventation Well and Emergency Exit)”.

The State Secretariat for Metropolitan Transport must present a copy of the public-private partnership (PPP) contract with Acciona, a copy of the project for the section of the accident, the inspection reports of the contract, what is being done to determine the causes of the collapse and the measures adopted by the concessionaire.

Paulo Galli, secretary of the portfolio, said that there was no drilling by the “tatuzão”, an excavator that opens the way to the tunnel through which the train will pass, as previously announced by the Fire Department.

“There was a rupture of the sewage that passes in the direction of Marginal Tietê, at the end of the mouth of the tunnel of line 6. It was the sewer gallery, it is not the river, it was not a collision between the armadillos and the network, it is not that”, he declared. Galli.

The Municipal Works Department must inform the measures that are being carried out to recover the Marginal Tietê lane and the reimbursement to the public coffers if the city hall is initially responsible for the repair works.

Civil Defense was asked about the possible existence of risk to residential and business properties in the region. The Basic Sanitation Company of the State of São Paulo (Sabesp) and the Traffic Engineering Company (CET) will have to provide clarification on the sewage network and the traffic situation in the region, respectively.

According to Benedito Braga, president of Sabesp, the company is working on the recovery of the ruptured sewage collector. “We are using an old replacement collector, and at this moment the amount of sewage that arrives here is much less than what arrived in the morning. The situation does not represent a big problem at the moment, and by the end of the day this situation will be resolved”, he declared.

The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), said that the “joint work” between public and private agencies will provide more information about the release of the Marginal, which only operated entirely by the expressway until late this Tuesday afternoon.

“The work is joint: City Hall, Sabesp, Metro, Acciona, our Transport Department, CET. Remembering that the CET has already prepared an action plan in relation to traffic”, he said.

“What we have now of consensus is that it is necessary to do everything as soon as possible to minimize the damage and the works to be resumed. We have to work for the city to return to normal, because the inconvenience on a road where 450,000 vehicles pass a day is gigantic”, he declared.
