Public servants are dismissed after allegations of nepotism in city hall

Two civil servants who held commissioned positions in the administration of Nova Lima City Hall, metropolitan region of BH, were dismissed following a recommendation made by the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG).

According to investigations, they had a certain degree of kinship with Mayor João Marcelo Dieguez (Citizenship), who was even re-elected in the 1st round in this year’s elections, with 85.60% of the votes.

The civil servants’ relationship with the City Hall characterizes nepotism, which is prohibited by Binding Precedent No. 13, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Given the facts, public prosecutor Rodrigo Otávio Mazieiro Wanis requested that the mayor appear at the 3rd local Public Prosecutor’s Office to present documentation of the civil servants’ dismissal, as recommended by the MPMG. “The Municipality promptly complied with the Recommendation and confirmed the dismissal of the employees”, informs Wanis.

THE CNN contacted Nova Lima City Hall. See note:

Nova Lima City Hall informs that it received a recommendation from the Public Ministry to dismiss two public servants and promptly responded to the request. It is explained that the servers are professionals with recognized experience, and one of them was already appointed during previous administrations. During the procedure with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was clarified that, in the understanding of the municipal management, the supposed nepotism did not exist, since the impediment resulted from the marriage of a public agent that occurred after the appointments. Even so, in order to preserve an environment of transparency and morality, it was decided to accept the recommendation and disconnect the servers.

Yours sincerely,
