Public service salary may have a real increase of 2%, according to Guedes

The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said that the civil service may have a salary readjustment of 2% in 2023. The statement was made in a press interview, this Thursday (27), after participating in a lecture at the Commercial Association of Sao Paulo (ACSP).

According to Paulo Guedes, the adjustment would be the difference between the real inflation of 2022, which according to the most recent Focus bulletin can be 5.5%, and the one foreseen in the Budget Law Project of 2023, which is 7.5% .

“I can assure you, the minimum wage will rise above inflation, pensions will rise above inflation, and the civil service will rise above inflation,” said the minister. Guedes also added that they would already make the resources available for the readjustment of the civil service, but with the deceleration of inflation, it was not necessary.

During the lecture and press conference, the minister complained about what he called fake news from the press. Guedes reiterated that alleged proposals for de-indexing the minimum wage and removing categories from income tax deductions were produced by “infiltrated PT members”.

Guedes also admitted that the government had problems communicating the deeds and proposals during President Jair Bolsonaro’s term. “I regretted the departure from the beginning, if we had better communication and you were more willing to listen. This is bad for democracy.”, highlighted the minister.
