Puglia offers a contribution for social freezing: it supports women who choose to cryrocyle eggs for social reasons

A step forward in the protection of the right to parenting: In Puglia a call was opened to request an economic contribution for social freezingi.e. the cryopreservation of oocytes for non -medical, but social purposes. An opportunity designed for women who, by choice or necessity, want to postpone motherhood without giving up the possibility of having a child in the future. Applications can be submitted until midnight on 3 July.

Cryoconer is now a widespread procedure, which allows you to “set aside” oocytes when their quality is optimal, that is, at a young age. It is a possibility already guaranteed by the National Health Service to women with oncological pathologiesbut so far expensive and not reimbursed for those who choose it for social reasons (for example, for professional, family or personal reasons).

With this measure, the Puglia Region opens for the first time to public support also for social freezing, allocating A contribution of up to 3 thousand euros to women who respond to specific criteria. The contribution will cover the documented expenses for the procedure (excluding drugs, food, accommodation and conservation costs over 12 months) and will be paid only once in life.

Women aged between 27 and 37 can applyresiding in Puglia for at least twelve months, with an ISEE not exceeding 30 thousand euros and which are aimed at medically assisted or private procreation centers, included in the national register authorized by the Ministry of Health. The ranking will be drawn up based on the ISEE value, giving precedence to the lowest ones. In the event of a tie, the age will be taken into account and, if necessary, of the date of submission of the application. The documentation must be transmitted by certified e -mail to the address [email protected] or delivered by hand to its social medical district of belonging, which will provide for the protocollation and sending the management of the territorial assistance department.

“This provision”, explains the ASL of Bari, “was adopted in line with the regional indications and shared with the technical table of the Apulian healthcare companies.
