The Washington Post won the award Pulitzer in the category “Public Service” to cover the attack launched in the Capitol by supporters of the former president of USADonald Trump, while the Reuters agency won the Photography Award for covering the Covid-19 pandemic in India.
Journalists in Ukraine were also awarded an honorary distinction for their coverage Russian invasionMarjorie Miller announced on behalf of the Pulitzer Prize committee.
The Pulitzer Prizes are awarded annually and are the highest honor for American journalism, winning the “Public Service” award.
This year the distinction was awarded to the Washington Post for the “convincing narrative and live presentation of the attack in Washington on January 6, 2021, which provided the public with a complete and unwavering understanding of one of the darkest days of the Nation,” Miller said.

Feature Photography was awarded to a team of Reuters photojournalists – including Dan Sindiki, who was killed last July in Afghanistan – to cover the Covid-19 pandemic in India.
The Miami Herald newspaper was awarded for covering the emergency news regarding the collapse of a high-rise building complex with a death toll of 98.
The New York Times won three awards: one for its report on deadly police checks, the second for the failure of US airstrikes in the Middle East, and the third for its Professor of African-American Studies and Creative Writing, Salamisa Tilet.
In addition, NY Times reporter Andrew Eliot was honored for her book “Invisible Child: Poverty, Survival and Hope in an American City,” which began in 2013 and was published in the newspaper.
The Pulitzer Prize, awarded since 1917, was based on the will of Hungarian-American publisher Joseph Pulitzer, who died in 1911 and left a significant legacy to Columbia University School of Journalism.
