The Military Police of Pará announced this Monday (24) the birth of nine puppies of the Belgian Shepherd Malinois breed, five males and four females. The dogs will begin training to observe their scent, search and capture skills, as well as other operational service skills.
According to Lieutenant Marina, a veterinarian at the unit, the animals began to be fed when they were 30 days old and then started to eat wet food. Now, they eat dry food on their own.
Training begins when they are three days old, but now they undergo assessments, which include checking who gets to the food first and who is the most active.
The Pará Military Police kennel was opened in October 1974 and in 2020 it was elevated to battalion status. The unit’s animals are separated according to the battalion’s training.
The categories are: operational service, explosives and narcotics sniffing, among others.
According to the organization, these animals’ keen ability to sniff out drugs and explosives has been vital in dismantling criminal organizations and preventing illicit acts that threaten society.
