Although it doesn’t seem like a reality to many people, happiness at work is an important area of life. In an interview with CNNthe happiness specialist and director of Reconnect Happiness at Work, Renata Rivetti, clarified that well-being in the corporate environment is not just about gifts, parties and company benefits
“You have to like what you do, feel challenged, have a sense of accomplishment, a sense of meaning, have a purpose to wake up to every day, this is essential to be happy at work”, he evaluated.
Rivetti stressed that another important point is to cultivate good relationships, with psychological security, autonomy and flexibility. “We think happiness at work is impossible because we often see work as a burden, but the world is changing and people are rethinking their lives and careers,” he said.
According to her, much more than earning money, generation Y values quality of life, flexibility and development in the corporate environment much more. In the expert’s assessment, the pandemic made people realize the brevity of life and the need to be happy in the present, and not in the future.
“We cannot think that we will only be happy after retirement”, he evaluated.
Between home office and face-to-face work, Rivetti considers that “there is no formula for which is the best model, it is under construction”. The expert said that the time is ripe to bring the topic to an open and transparent discussion with psychological safety.
“What we can’t do is go back to 2019 and ignore what we experienced in those years when there was indeed a gain, a new culture in companies and in the ways of working”, he said.
According to the expert, the contemporary world needs to “create open, transparent and psychologically safe communication to create this new model, which does not have a formula but is certainly under construction”.
