WhatsApp has expanded the functions of its application on featurephones – push-button mobile phones, which, as a rule, have an operating system other than Android and iOS with reduced functionality. The company has teamed up with KaiOS Technologies to enable users of KaiOS devices to make voice calls over the Internet around the world. The new feature will allow people to make Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls using Wi-Fi or mobile internet. It is available in the latest version of WhatsApp with index 2.2110.41.
Featurephones include the popular JioPhone, Nokia and many other phones. All you need to do to make a WhatsApp call is open a chat window, then select Options> Voice Call.
A WhatsApp spokesperson noted that many people around the world use such devices, and they all rely on WhatsApp to stay in touch with their loved ones. By the way, the messenger appeared on KaiOS in 2019, but phone users could only send and receive messages in it.
