Putin announces partial mobilization of Russian citizens for war in Ukraine

Russia is launching a partial mobilization of its citizens, as President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday during a highly anticipated speech to the nation.

“To protect our homeland, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, to guarantee the security of our people and the people in the liberated territories, I consider it necessary to support the proposal of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff to carry out a partial mobilization in the Russian Federation”, said Putin.

Efforts to start partial mobilization will begin this Wednesday, Putin announced. The Russian leader also said that a decree has already been signed to make the measure official.

“I repeat, we are only talking about partial mobilization. That is, only those citizens who are in the reserve and, above all, those who have served in the Armed Forces, have certain military specialties and relevant experience, will be subject to recruitment”, explained the Russian president.

“After the Kiev regime publicly refused a peaceful solution to the Donbas problem today, and furthermore announced its claim to nuclear weapons, it became absolutely clear that a new large-scale offensive in the Donbas, as had already happened twice before, it was inevitable.”

It is unclear what Putin is referring to with his mention of nuclear weapons.
