Putin apologized to Israel for Lavrov’s comments about Hitler

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had apologized for comments made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Hitler had “Jewish roots.”

Mr. Bennett, after a telephone conversation with the head of the Russian state, stressed that he accepted his apology. Putin also thanked him for clearing up the issue.

The Israeli prime minister also noted that he had asked Putin to allow the evacuation of the besieged Azofstal factory in Mariupol. The request was made after a telephone conversation between N. Bennett and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the head of the Israeli government, Putin pledged to create a humanitarian corridor for civilians.
