Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that “the crisis in Ukraine” could have been avoided if US President Donald Trump was in power at the time the conflict began, and said who was ready to talk to the new US president about the topic.
Trump for a long time states that the war in Ukraine would not have happened under his supervision, but this was the first time Putin suggested the same thing – while repeating Trump’s false allegation that the 2020 election in the US was “Stolen”.
“I can’t help but agree with [Trump] That if his victory had not been stolen in 2020, then perhaps there was no crisis in Ukraine that emerged in 2022, ”Putin told a Russian TV channel, probably referring to the large -scale invasion of Ukraine he himself ordered in February 2022.
Trump said in the past that he would end the war in Ukraine in one day. After taking over the presidency, however, he gave his special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, 100 days to find a solution.
The new government has not yet revealed any concrete plan on how to achieve peace in Ukraine. According to Trump, however, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said he wants to agree and suggested that Putin should also want to find a solution.
“So I think Russia should want to make a deal. Maybe they want to make a deal. I think from what I heard, Putin would like to see me. We will meet as soon as we can. I would find myself immediately. Every day we have not met, soldiers are being killed in a battlefield, ”Trump told reporters on Thursday (23).
Putin seemed receptive to meet Trump, saying that Russia was “always open to it.”
“As for the issue related to negotiations – we always said, and I will emphasize this once again, that we are ready for negotiations on the Ukrainian issue,” said the Russian leader. A day earlier, Kremlin said he was expecting Washington’s “signs”.
Putin’s statement came a day after Trump threatened new sanctions against Moscow when speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
However, Putin questioned this warning on Friday, saying that such a movement would hurt the American economy. “He is not just an intelligent person, he is a pragmatic person, and I can hardly imagine that decisions will be made that will harm the American economy itself,” Putin said.
