Putin discussed countermeasures to US sanctions with the Russian Security Council

The Russian president Vladimir Putin discussed today with the permanent members of its Security Council Russia, Russia will impose sanctions on the United States after Washington’s decision to impose new sanctions on Moscow, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peshkov said.

“The president also briefed the meeting participants on the telephone conversations he had this week,” the spokesman added, noting that “the main topic of the meeting was the development of military forces.”

Washington yesterday announced a list of companies subject to sanctions, the expulsion of 10 Russian diplomats, while banning US banks from buying Russian government bonds of the Central Bank, the National Wealth Fund and the Treasury Department.

The meeting of the Security Council was attended by the Speaker of the State Duma Vitsislav Volodin, the Vice President of the SA Dmitry Medvedev, the Chief of Staff of the Kremlin Anton Vaino, the Secretary of the SA Nikolai Patrushev, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs the leaders of the FSB (Federal Security Service) of the SVR (External Intelligence Service) Alexander Bortnikov and Sergei Naryshkin.

Moscow briefed US ambassador on Russian sanctions

Adviser to Russian President Yuri Ushakov briefed US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan on Russia’s countermeasures against the new US sanctions, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peshkov.

“In accordance with the decisions taken, the adviser to the Russian president, Yuri Ushakov, summoned the US ambassador to Russia, Sullivan, and explained to him the response of the Russian side to the sanctions announced yesterday by the United States against Russia,” Peshkov said.
