Putin-Erdogan meeting: “A new page in Russia-Turkey relations”

The Russian president Vladimir Putin said he hopes to sign an agreement to strengthen economic cooperation with Turkey, welcoming his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, southern Russia.

“I hope we will be able to sign a memorandum today to strengthen our economic and trade ties,” Putin said at the launch of the meeting with Erdoganbroadcast on Russian television.

The Turkish president, for his part, stressed that he hopes his meeting today with Putin will open a new “page” in bilateral relations, adding that he will mainly refer to Syria, where Ankara wants to start a new military operation.

At the same time, he characterized the meetings between the delegations of the two countries as constructive and said that it is important that the nuclear power plant in Akuyu, which is being built by the Russian nuclear giant Rosatom in southern Turkey, is completed within the schedules that have been set.
