Putin faces arrest on trip next week; Kremlin denies possibility

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday (30) that Moscow has no concerns about President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming visit to Mongolia, despite an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court against the Russian president.

“No, don’t worry about it (the ICC arrest warrant). We have a great dialogue with our Mongolian friends,” Peskov said in a statement. “Obviously, the visit, all aspects of the visit were thoroughly discussed,” the Kremlin spokesman added.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in 2023, accusing him of the war crime of illegally deporting hundreds of children from Ukraine after Moscow launched its military operation against its smaller neighbor in February 2022.

Unlike Russia, Mongolia is a member of the International Criminal Court and recognizes the jurisdiction of the ICC.
