Putin: ‘Friendly countries’ admit they can not do without Russian energy

A rapid transition to “green” energy is not possible, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today, arguing that “unfriendly” countries in Europe have accepted the fact that they can not avoid Russian supplies.

In particular, as reported by Reuters, speaking at a cabinet meeting, the Russian president said that “EU countries are talking about cutting off energy supplies from Russia, which is pushing up prices and destabilizing the market.”

According to him, however, “unfriendly countries admit that they can not do without Russian energy resources.”

Vladimir Putin also said that the construction of infrastructure for oil and gas exports to the East should begin, as Russia needs to diversify its energy supplies away from Europe.

At the same time, he pointed out that Russia must replace the import of equipment for the production of oil and gas.

The Russian president also reiterated that he plans to increase the share of payments his country receives in its national exchange rate, the ruble, while talking about disruptions in payments for gas and oil exports.
