Putin informed the State Duma of the plan to annex four regions of Ukraine

The President informed the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, today Vladimir Putin on plans to annex four regions of Ukraine to Russia, a technical step towards Russia’s annexation of these regions.

State Duma Speaker Vychislav Volodin, a key Putin ally, told the Duma’s official Telegram channel that Putin had informed the chamber of the regions’ official demands.

Russia held what it describes as referendums in four of its partially controlled regions Ukrainian Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia– and he said the results showed how the residents overwhelmingly favored joining Russia.

Western governments and Kyiv said the polls were held under the coercion of the occupation, were not representative and violated international law.

Putin is expected to preside over a signing ceremony with the heads of the four regions, which Russia has installed, in the Kremlin later today.
