Putin Interviewed Tucker Carlson 'Because His Approach Is Different From One-sided Western Media'

Russian President Vladimir Putin gave an interview to US TV host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday because, the Kremlin said, his approach differs from the one-sided reporting of many mainstream Western media outlets.

THE Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Western media no longer attempt to appear impartial in their reporting on Russia and said that there is no longer a willingness to communicate directly with such news organizations, APE reports.

“As far as the countries of the collective West are concerned, the major online media and the major newspapers cannot in any way boast that they are even remotely trying to appear unbiased in their coverage. These are all media outlets that take an extremely one-sided position. Of course, there is no desire to contact such media, it makes almost no sense and is unlikely to be useful,” he added.

When asked why Putin gave an interview to CarlsonPeskov said his position contradicted much of the Western media.

“His position is different from others. It is in no way pro-Russian, it is not pro-Ukrainian – it is pro-American, but at least it contradicts the traditional Anglo-Saxon media's position,” said Peskov.

The interview is likely to be made public on Thursday, Russian news agency TASS reported, citing Wall Street Journal reports.

The Kremlin said today it was receiving requests for an interview with Putin from Western media outlets, denying comments by Carlson, who boasted that he was the only one who wanted to speak with the Russian president.

THE former Fox News star anchorwho is close to Republican former President Donald Trump, claimed yesterday that “not a single Western journalist bothered” to interview Putin after the attack on Ukraine began, while announcing that he would soon broadcast an interview with him.

“No, it's not like that,” the spokesman for the Russian presidency replied today when asked about those statements. Instead, “we get a lot of requests for interviews with the president,” he said, but the Western media don't try “at least to appear objective and adopt a very biased position,” he added.

Tucker Carlson, who has been accused of popularizing conspiracy and racist theories, has a “position that contradicts that of the traditional Anglo-Saxon media,” Peskov commented, confirming that the interview with the Russian president has been granted to that presenter.

Before leaving Fox News last April, the network hosted “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” one of its most popular shows.

From 2016 to 2023, Carlson presented the image of an America besieged by immigration and the protests of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Today, Carlson, who now hosts a show on his website and X (formerly Twitter), has repeatedly criticized American support for Russia's war in Ukraine.

As of Tuesday, several Western journalists have claimed to have tried to speak with Putin, contrary to Tucker Carlson's claims.

“Does Tucker really think that we journalists have not tried to interview Putin every day since the start of his invasion of Ukraine?” protested Christiane Amanpour, a famous correspondent for the American channel CNN.

“This is absurd – we will continue to ask for an interview, as we have done for years,” he said.

Steve Rosenberg, a BBC journalist, also said he had sent “a number of requests”. “For us, it's always 'no.'

The Russian president has not given an interview to Western media since the attack on Ukraine began in February 2022.
