Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Vladimir Putin of Russia spoke by phone on Wednesday (18). According to the Kremlin, the Russian leader offered help to Brazil in fighting the fires that are affecting several regions of the country.
The heads of state also discussed BRICS, addressing the group’s summit in Kazan, scheduled for October 22-24. The Russian government said the leaders had agreed to meet during the event.
Another important point of the conversation was the war in Ukraine. According to the Kremlin, Lula “reaffirmed Brazil’s interest in helping to find solutions to resolve the conflict.”
Brazil and China presented a peace proposal for the war in May. However, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said in an interview with the Metrópoles portal that the text is “destructive”, serving only as a “political declaration”.
Finally, the Kremlin note highlights that the “two leaders reaffirmed their mutual interest in building political dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy and industrial cooperation.”
