Putin Orders Payment of Benefits to People Arriving in Russia from Ukraine

the president of Russia , Vladimir Putin signed this Saturday (27) a decree that introduces financial benefits for people who left Ukrainian territory to come to the country, including retirees, pregnant women and people with disabilities.

The decree, published on a government website, establishes monthly payments of a pension of US$170 for people who have been forced to leave the territory of the Ukraine since the 18th of February. People with disabilities will also be entitled to the same monthly support, while pregnant women are entitled to a single benefit.

The text says that payments will be made to citizens of Ukraine and the self-styled People’s Republics of donetsk and luhansk – two Russian-backed separatist entities in eastern Ukraine that Moscow recognized as independent in February in a move condemned by Ukraine and the West as illegal.

On February 18, Putin ordered each person arriving in Russia from Donetsk and Luhansk to receive a payment of 10,000 rubles.

Moscow has been giving Russian passports to Ukrainians, in which Ukraine and the United States they say it is an illegal effort by Moscow to annex the territory it has occupied as part of what they consider an imperialist Russian land grab.

The Russian government says it is prosecuting “a special military operation” to protect and defend Russian speakers who it says have been persecuted by Ukrainian authorities, something Kiev denies.
