Putin says sending Western troops to Ukraine could lead to World War III

Russian President Vladimir Putin in his election victory speech to the press in Moscow late on Sunday and early Monday (18), local time, said that the presence of Western troops in Ukraine could push the world to the brink of Third World War. World War.

Despite this, Putin said he did not think anyone was interested in such a scenario.

“I think anything is possible in the modern world. But I have already said this and it is clear to everyone that this (conflict between Russia and NATO) will be just one step away from a full-scale Third World War. I don’t think anyone is interested in this,” he said.

French President Emmanuel Macron caused controversy last month when he said he could not rule out deploying troops to Ukraine in the future. “If Russia wins this war, Europe’s credibility will be reduced to zero,” Macron said in a television interview. The comments were not well received by different European leaders.

Still talking about the war, Putin said at the press conference that the Russian armed forces are advancing in Ukraine every day.

Responding to a question about Macron, the Russian president said he hoped France would seek “paths to peaceful solutions. In this sense, France could play its role. But all is not lost yet.”

Macron called for a ceasefire in Ukraine during the Paris Olympics. At the same press conference, Putin said that Russia is ready for negotiations on the French proposal to pause fighting during the competition. However, according to him, it is necessary to take into account Russia's interests at the forefront.
