Putin Sees “Certain Positive Changes” in Ukraine Negotiations

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that there had been some progress in negotiations with Ukraine, but did not provide details.

“There are certain positive changes, negotiators on our side tell me,” Putin told a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, adding that talks continued “practically every day.”

Putin did not elaborate, but said in the televised comments that he would go into more detail with Lukashenko.

However, a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers on Thursday (10) failed.

In a statement to the press after the meeting, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said there had been no progress in the discussion for a 24-hour ceasefire to “resolve the most urgent humanitarian issues”.

Kuleba claimed the advance was impeded because there are “other decision-makers at that point” on the Russian side.

Russia, for its part, declared that it would unilaterally open humanitarian corridors into Russian territory on a daily basis. This Friday, runners would be held in Kiev, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Mariupol.
