Russian President Vladimir Putin and European Council President Charles Michel had a telephone conversation today to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
Putin said he would have direct talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky only if the ongoing talks between the two countries yield concrete results, the Kremlin said.
Putin told Michel that Kyiv shows that it is not ready to seek mutually acceptable solutions and accused the Ukrainian side of being “inconsistent” in the negotiations.
The President of the European Council, in a post on Twitter, noted that “we strongly call for immediate humanitarian access and safe passage from Mariupol and other besieged cities even more on the occasion of Orthodox Easter,” notes Charles Michel.
At the same time, he reiterated the EU’s position in support of Ukraine and its sovereignty, condemning and imposing sanctions on Russia.
“Our unity, our principles and our values are inviolable,” said the President of the European Council.
