Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Russian Western region of Kursk for the first time since the Ukrainian forces took part in the territory.
Putin appeared on Russian state television dressed a military uniform. He visited a control center in the Kursk region used by Russian troops.
He heard a report by Valery Gerasimov, head of the Russian forces, who told him that the Ukrainian troops in the territory were surrounded.
“Its systematic destruction is underway,” said Gerasimov.
Putin stated that the Russian forces should completely free the Ukrainian troop region as soon as possible, reported news agencies.
He added that Russia should treat the Ukrainian soldiers captured as prisoners of war in the Kursk region as terrorists.
“People in the Kursk region, who commit crimes against civilians here, who oppose our Armed Forces, Public Security Agencies and Special Services, are people we should certainly treat as terrorists,” said the Russian President.
He also added that Russia does not intend to extend Geneva’s conventions to foreigners who fight alongside Ukraine.
